MDEC TO CONTINUE WITH WORK-FROM-HOME (WFH) ARRANGEMENT
- With the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, on 5th June 2020, MDEC continues with its Work-From-Home (WFH) arrangement to help contain the spread of Covid-19 by safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our communities.
- All our offices (except for eXpats Centres – located at Cyberjaya and Penang and The Orbit – based in Bangsar South) will be temporarily closed for now.
The offices that are temporarily closed until further notice are as follows:

- Therefore we will not be able to take any walk-in visitors to our offices and we encourage our visitors/partners to leverage alternative digital support channels to contact (i.e. telephone, email, message, video conferencing or conference call via mobile apps) our respective MDEC staff that you wish to get in touch. If you don’t manage to get through to one of the team members please send an email to clic@mdec.com.my and we will get back to you as soon as we can

- As for the MSC Malaysia eXpats Centres located at Jalan Teknokrat in Cyberjaya and Northern Region Centre in Seberang Jaya, Pulau Pinang, the centres have started operating as usual since 13th May 2020. For any support queries, visitors are requested to schedule an online appointment before visiting the eXpats’ centres. You may book your appointment at appt.expats.com.my
- Meanwhile, The Orbit office located at Bangsar South has started operating since 1st June 2020. Maximum five visitors are allowed at a time and visitors are requested to schedule an appointment at least a day prior by contacting hello@theorbit.io It is also compulsory for visitors to adhere to health and safety guidelines.

Important Announcement
Update of MSC malaysia Status Tax Incentive
Background
- We refer to the announcement by the Government of Malaysia on 12 June 2018, “Malaysia’s Commitment in International Tax Standard“, and the subsequent announcement by MDEC on 28 December 2018, titled “Important Update and Changes on MSC Malaysia BOG 5“.
- As stated in the aforesaid announcements, the identified tax incentives of Malaysia will need to be reviewed and amended to be consistent with the international standards, which also include the MSC Malaysia Bill of Guarantee (BOG) 5 (Tax Exemption).
- In accordance with the above exercise, the grant of MSC Malaysia Status and its incentives, including extension of income tax exemption period, or adding new MSC Malaysia Qualifying Activities, has been put on hold since 1 July 2018.
Changes to BOG 5 (Tax Exemption)
- Previously, the tax exemption for MSC Malaysia Status was granted for the income derived from MSC Malaysia Approved Activities. Moving forward, the tax exemption will be granted for income derived from either services activities (Services Incentive) and/or intellectual property (IP Incentive).
Status Update: Approval of MSC Malaysia Status Services Incentive (Non-IP)
- The MSC Malaysia Status Services Incentive has been approved by the Government and will be regulated under the new Income Tax (Exemption) (No. 10) Order 2018 [P.U.(A) 389/2018], which was gazetted on 31 December 2018.
- As for the MSC Malaysia Status IP Incentive, the policy is still under review process by the Government. MDEC will be releasing further information in due course.
Application of MSC Malaysia Status Services Incentive (Non-IP)
- Applications for MSC Malaysia Status Services Incentive can be made starting from 2nd April 2019.
